CPP FAQs

It ultimately depends on your church’s vision. Our preferred approach is to partner with you by establishing an on-site counseling center—serving both your congregation and your broader community. However, this is not a requirement. If space is limited, we can still collaborate effectively through our fully virtual counseling systems.

At Whole Soul, we take your trust seriously, which is why we move carefully and intentionally in our hiring process. Our goal is to ensure that every provider is not only highly trained, but also spiritually aligned—so you can feel confident that your members are in good hands.
Each provider goes through a rigorous vetting process and is trained in Formation-Centered Counseling, creating a shared foundation and unity across our team while still honoring the unique skills and life experiences each counselor brings. In addition, any pastoral counselors serving your church receive ongoing training, supervision, and consultation through the Whole Soul Institute, ensuring they are well-equipped to minimize liability and maximize impact.

Our Church Partner Program is designed to be as close to plug-and-play as possible. Our goal is to make partnering with us simple, seamless, and realistic for your church.

That said, we’ve found it works best when each church designates a liaison. This person—whether a staff pastor, volunteer, or pastoral counselor—serves as the primary point of contact between your team and ours at Whole Soul. While your internal team may be larger, having a dedicated liaison is the only key requirement to ensure clear communication and smooth collaboration.

At Whole Soul Counsel, we organize our providers into three primary categories:

1. Licensed Professionals – These individuals meet and maintain all requirements for licensure within their respective state(s).

2. Clinically Trained Pastoral Counselors – These providers have the education and clinical training necessary for licensure but have chosen to serve in a pastoral counseling role rather than operate as licensed clinicians.

3. Pastoral Counselors (Whole Soul Institute Trained) – These individuals are trained through the Whole Soul Institute to provide pastoral counseling within a ministry context.

It’s important to note that pastoral counselors are only hired to serve within their home church or on behalf of a partnering church; they are not part of our broader provider network. Our network team—which serves through telehealth in addition to local, in-person care—is made up exclusively of licensed professionals and clinically trained pastoral counselors.

While we are not insurance agents or attorneys, it is our understanding that partnering with Whole Soul Counsel does not add additional liability to your church. Whole Soul Counsel operates as a separate nonprofit entity and carries its own general liability insurance policy, under which your church can be included.

In addition, all of our providers—including any of our counselors operating in your facilities—carry their own Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance. This layered approach is designed to provide added protection and peace of mind as we serve your church and community.

If we partner using your church’s office space, there may be a slight increase in utilities, though we typically operate during regular church hours to minimize impact.

We are also in the process of finalizing our membership tiers and will share more details soon. In general, there will be a free tier available to ensure that financial limitations are never a barrier to care.

For more information on our tiers and overall funding model, please visit the Church Partners page and submit an inquiry. A member of our team will follow up with a short video explaining the details. If, after watching, you’d like to schedule a conversation for further clarity, we’d be glad to connect.

No—our team handles all of that for you.

Our Church Partner Program is designed to be as close to plug-and-play as possible. Our goal is to make partnering with us simple, seamless, and realistic for your church.

What we ask from you is a shared heart and vision: a desire to see your people engage in soul care, a willingness to partner for deeper impact and broader reach, and a commitment to making counseling and soul care—what we believe is, in essence, discipleship—a core part of your church’s culture. This includes talking about your counseling center, celebrating what God is doing through it, and encouraging your people to participate.

Beyond that, our team handles the rest.

No problem—that’s exactly what our network team is here for. We have providers ready to serve your church through telehealth, ensuring your people have access to care regardless of location or space.

Additionally, if there are individuals within your church whom you recognize as gifted in counseling and willing to be ordained as pastoral counselors, we can train them through our pastoral counselor training program and commission them to serve within your church context.

That’s great—we’d love to meet them and explore how we can partner together. We’re always open to considering whether there’s a place for them on our team, and if not, we’d still value the connection so we can potentially refer individuals to them when appropriate.
